Stock Market for Beginners: Buy, Hold, or Sell? Here's How to Actually Decide.

Three words. Buy. Hold. Sell.
The entire stock market runs on these three decisions. And yet most beginners have no framework for making any of them.
They buy because someone said so. They hold because they are scared to sell. They sell because they panicked.
Koi logic nahi. Koi plan nahi. Sirf reaction.
After 6 years in markets and mentoring hundreds of beginners, let me give you the simplest framework I know for each decision.
When to BUY
Do not buy a stock because it is trending. Do not buy because your WhatsApp group is excited. Do not buy because the price went up yesterday.
Buy when:
- You understand the business and how it makes money
- Revenue and profits have been growing consistently for at least 3 years
- The stock is near a strong support level on the chart, not at an all time high with no pullback
- You have decided your stop loss before clicking the buy button
When to HOLD
Holding is the hardest skill in markets. Seriously. Because holding means doing nothing while your emotions scream at you to act.
Hold when:
- The reason you bought the stock is still valid. Business is growing. Thesis is intact.
- The stock is above your stop loss level. It has not broken your exit rule.
- The broader trend is still in your favour.
When to SELL
A stock going sideways for a few weeks is not a reason to sell. A stock falling 5% during a broad market dip is not a reason to sell. These are normal market behaviours. Jab tak thesis intact hai, hold karo. Patience ka naam hi investing hai.
This is where 90% of beginners fail. They either sell too early out of fear or too late out of hope.
Sell when:
- Your stop loss is hit. Non negotiable. Exit immediately.
- The fundamental reason you bought the stock has changed. Revenue falling. Management issues. Business model broken.
- Your target is reached. If you entered with a plan to exit at 20% gain, honour that plan.
- You need the capital for a significantly better opportunity.
The real secret nobody tells beginners
Selling is not failure. It is discipline. The best traders in the world are wrong 40 to 50% of the time. What makes them profitable is that they cut losers quickly and let winners run.
Buy, Hold, and Sell are not three separate skills. They are one skill applied differently.
That skill is: having a plan before you act and following it after you act.
Jis din yeh habit ban gayi, usi din aap beginner nahi rahe.
